A Transformative Trip

Recently, a group of dedicated volunteers embarked on a journey to HecLife's compound in Watamu, Kenya, with a mission to make a tangible difference in the lives of the children and support the ongoing development of the school. The trip was filled with impactful activities that not only enhanced the immediate well-being of the children but also laid the groundwork for future projects that will benefit the entire community.

One of the primary tasks undertaken by the volunteers was conducting full skin assessments on all the children at HecLife. This thorough health check was essential in ensuring that each child is healthy and receiving the necessary care. The volunteers also took this opportunity to create a detailed roster of the children, which will help the staff at HecLife keep track of their medical history, growth, and any special needs they may have. This roster is a vital tool that will assist in providing ongoing, personalized care for each child.

In addition to the medical assessments, the volunteers also turned their attention to the kitchen staff, who play a crucial role in the daily lives of the children by providing nutritious meals. The team upgraded the kitchen equipment, making it easier and more efficient for the staff to prepare food. This improvement not only enhances the quality of meals but also supports the health and well-being of the children, ensuring they have the energy and nutrition they need to thrive.

One of the most exciting parts of the trip was the construction of a platform for the shipping container that will eventually be converted into a community clinic. This platform represents the foundation of a future site that will provide essential medical services to both the children at HecLife and the surrounding community. The volunteers’ hard work in building this platform brings HecLife one step closer to realizing its vision of becoming a fully self-sustaining boarding school with comprehensive resources for the community.

This trip was a powerful reminder of the impact that volunteer efforts can have on the lives of those at HecLife. The work completed during this visit not only addressed immediate needs but also laid important groundwork for future developments, helping to secure a brighter, healthier future for the children and the entire community.
