Our History
Founded in 2012 by Joab Ngero, HecLife was established to address the rising number of orphans in Watamu, Kenya. The founders, Joab and Shem Teya, have personally experienced the transformative power of education and support, which allowed them to break free from the cycle of poverty. Driven by this deep understanding, they developed HecLife with a commitment to providing both education and basic medical care, which many of the children wouldn't receive at home. Over the years, HecLife has built up the school to include a full staff: 1 administrator, 4 teachers, 1 dietician, and 2 security personnel. The organization has become an essential resource for the community, offering vulnerable children the chance to change their lives.
Our Future
HecLife's future vision includes becoming a fully self-sustaining boarding school to ensure long-term stability and independence.
Key Goals Include:
Outfitting the dormitory with beds
More desks for each student
Completing the upgraded bathroom facilities
Finishing the cafeteria
Building out community clinic
By achieving these goals, HecLife aims to provide a safe, nurturing environment where children, many of whom are orphans, can live and learn without the constant stress of hunger, sickness or housing. Becoming self-sufficient will allow the organization to better focus on its mission and adapt to future needs, while also serving as a reliable resource for the community. HecLife remains dedicated to empowering these children and supporting their journey toward a brighter future.
